Bike to School Day in Newark

Bike (and Walk) to School Day, May 10 The Downes Elementary School Safe Routes to School Program is excited to announce the kick-off of the Downes Biking Tuesdays program with a celebration of National Bike (and Walk) to School Day. City of Newark Mayor Sierer will be on hand to greet students and distribute fun giveaways to those who bike (or walk) to school on Tuesday, May 10, as well as read the National Bike to School Day Proclamation. The Biking Tuesdays program is intended to encourage more children to bike (and walk) to school and make conditions safer for those who already do. This effort builds on our strong Walking Wednesdays program and is aimed at increasing healthy lifestyles among children and improving the transportation and natural environment around our school.
