MD-272 Corridor Plan
The MD-272 Corridor Plan is aimed at improving transportation along the MD-272 from Joseph Biggs Memorial Highway (MD-274) in the north to Shady Beach Road and Hance Point Road in the south. This area is a high priority for transportation upgrades in Cecil County because it’s already facing challenges and is expected to grow in the future.
The Plan will be developed under the guidance of a Steering Committee comprised of agency partners and local leaders with input from the community. All residents are encouraged to participate! The Plan will review current and future transportation and land use conditions, and then recommend the best options for making transportation safer, more connected, and accessible.
The Plan will be developed in four phases:
- Identifying Issues and Opportunities: This phase will analyze traffic, future growth, environmental factors, and social equity.
- Understanding Needs and Creating a Vision: Based on data and community input, this phase will outline the transportation and land use needs and develop a vision for the corridor.
- Proposing and Evaluating Alternatives: Different ideas for improving the corridor will be considered, focusing on safety, social equity, and sustainability. This could include road expansions, transit improvements, walking and cycling paths, and more.
- Choosing the Best Alternatives: After considering community feedback and technical factors, the best solutions will be selected. The final plan will outline these preferred options and identify potential funding sources to make them a reality.
